groupers

question for you guys, i want to get a second tank something north of 90. Now i was thinking i would do a decent reef BUT i've always wanted a grouper. (have some experience with a v-tail.) i was thinking miniatus and a polleni. Now i've done some searching and it is possible as long as they're the same size blah blah. BUT on tank size they both stay small for a grouper both will be short of 14,( to my knowledge please enlighten me if i'm wrong). Would it be ill advised to do 2 groupers in lets say a 110. I know they are in with alot out with even more lol so i could get a monster skimmer. i just need input on tank size. I don't want to go over 150 gallons. Just let me know what you guys think. But don't belittle me this isn't a stupid question i know it has been done, i just want to treat my fish well.

If you want to stay under 150 how about a 125. 6ft long 18" wide and put 1/2 of your rock in sump for more swimming room.

i am starting a 75 that i am hoping will be big enough for 1 lion and 2 grouper.you guys think that will be big enough or too small.its48x18x21

I would suggest a 125g as well. Putting two groupers in the same tank will be a gamble though, it may work fine or they may kill each other. One of those have to try it to find out type deals.

A 75g is way to small for two groupers and a lionfish. 6ft tank minimum.

i have a 75 gallon i have set up for a predator tank.i am goin to have a lion more then likly to be a pterious antennata because they are only 4-6in.now is there any grouper you guys can recommend.i want some color bu not to expensive.around6-12in.thanks

One grouper will Max a 75 out (depending on species, most will outgrow a 4ft tank). Don't try two, your tank isn't big enough, you'll end up with either one or none.

Justin, you could try a marine betta I guess, or even a pair. They're related to groupers, and have that sort of look. On pairing, check out the comet reproduction section here.

Evb9, I agree on the 125g minimum recommendation.

Best way to put 2 groupers in a tank is to put 2 of different genuses in. Groupers of the same genus tend to fight alot more.
Unfortunately all the flashy eye catching groupers (polleni, miniatus, blueline, v tail, bluespotted) are in the Cephalopholis family which means your only options are one of those pretty ones and
a panther (Cromileptes) or white spotted (Epinephelus)
The rest get a little too big for home tanks unless you have a monster 300g+ tank you couuld have a Lyretail (Variola) which is like a miniatus but can get 36"

I plan on starting a 300g with a polleni and a panther or white spotted
