growing a nice thick zoo mat

Would i be able to grow a nice big mat of zoos quicker if I took a small colony (20-30 polyps) and split into small groups(5 polyps) and spaced them out? Much like you would with Echinodorus Tennelus, http://www.tropica.com/productcard.asp?id=067
