Growth of LPS

How long does it take for duncans to grow? I'm thinking of buying a single head for a really good price and would love to know how long it will take to grow.

Once again search. This is a well documented subject. It is also one I can not answer without knowing your tank parameters.

Search is sometimes easier said than done. Especially when a person has to wait until 2 am on most days to get into the search function.

They will guickly sprout baby heads from around existing heads. However, it will take a while for them to branch out enough for you to frag them. In terms of growth though, they are fairly fast.

I bought one with 4 heads a little over a month ago. Since then it's grown a bunch (~12) of baby heads, but like JJ said, I think it's going to take a while before they branch off.

i started with 2 now have 5 heads in about 3 months and i dont spot feed light only and whatever they catch when i feed the tank

Thanks for the info, I really wanted to get a bunch of answers instead of searching, I find it better to get more than one answer, thanks everyone.

I bought one head last year and now have 9-10 fully developed heads and the skeleton is starting to separate, before they were such a tight cluster fragging would be impossible. Mine are fed anywhere from once a week to every day depending on how ambitious I'm feeling.

Mine was stuck for a while because I was running a low nutrient system and they didn't get much food, but I h ave since started target feeding and now 2 heads have become 6 heads and it has only been 2 months since I started target feeding pellets.

I have a 1 inch by 1 inch frag about 1 month ago with about 6 heads.
Now it has about 10. I feed them every other day. I can't wait till the heads get large.

mine started with 3 heads and exploded to about 40. now it's very slow to pop new heads. when fully extended its about the size of a softball

That sounds just like my experience with healthy duncans. Feed the heads meaty foods early on and they'll grow faster. Once you have a few heads, just let them catch what they can and they'll still grow to a baseball or softball pretty fast. The time between 1-4 is a lot longer than 4 to a lot, it seems. Medium light and flow will keep them happiest, IMO. Mine sits in the middle of my 120g, lit by 2 Kessil A350s with 3x MP40s handling the flow.
