Nuclear Greens
Nuclears_12-05-0615k.jpg

I am curious about the nuclear greens. They look amazing in the photos. They remind me of just the normal brown palys (button polyps). I have some that turn florescent green under actinics, but nothing like that. Is that green so pronounced without blue light? When you acquired those, did they start off more brown and become a nuclear green? Where did you get them?

"08-24-06 under 10k Blueline bulb w/ 4 black fiber glass screen sheets.. moved them from the holding tank to display tank (250w MH SE)"
Do you acclimate all new zoas to halides by using screen? I have a 2x 250watt 12k reeflux setup over a 48x24x24 120. I am having problems getting my zoas to acclimate. I have tried moving them all the way to the bottom and under indirect light. They still would not open. I gave up and moved the colonies to a different tank. Do you do a screen step down? How long do you filter the light? I might just switch to 20k XMs.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason.. if you're planning on keeping a zoas dominated tank, I would recommend just getting 20k XM's.. are your 250w DE or SE? mine are just SE's so they're not as bright as the DE's.. I normally do not have a problem acclimating new zoas to my tank... and I don't use the screen method all the time.. the only time I did that is when I upgraded from a 12g nano w/ 96w quad PC's to a 32g w/ 250w MH SE w/ magnetic ballast...

I dunno if this helps but good luck with your future acclimation with you zoas.. don't give up on them, they look good under MH IMO.. :)
