GSP not opening!

my gsp frag had been doing great even growing and spreadig like crazy. About 2 days ago I noticed it not opening as much, I already tested the water and nothing seems to be different. I just noticed some brown stuff on the mat and I think this might be stopping it from opening. WHat can I do?

You can blow it off with a turkey baster or something to clear the mat of the brown stuff.

Mine did the samething, close for 3-4 days and now they are back. Never figured out what happened. Good luck with yours !

I've noticed that my GSPs are very sensitive to any change in water conditions. They wouldn't open once because of low alk which caused a dip in pH. The death or a rather large turbo snail seemed to make them unhappy for a day or two, presumably from the rotting animal in my small 30g system. No other of my fish or corals showed any signs of illness in either of these cases. GSPs not opening seem to be a good early warning for even for some change (even small ones) in water quality.

i took them out and brushed the stuff off with a soft brush and then put then by the powerhead a few minutes and 2 days later they are opening up and they seem mush brighter

As does mine. I think maybe they just need a break sometimes?

It's very common for gsp to close on it's own, I'm sure there is a reason for it but I don't know theexact reason why. As long as you water is stable I wouldn't worry. When mine closes it does for a day or 2 and then they are back to normal.
