Guess it won't grow back

Picked up my tank and live stock from a tank sitter and my sailfin was missing a huge portion of his fin. I hear fin's will grow back but while i was gone there was poor water quality. And in announced to me he has been like this for a few months now. So sad.

I had a yellow tang in a customer tank which was missing a chunk of the dorsal, much like your sailfin. I thought it was permanent, possibly even a birth defect. Lo and behold, after 6 or 8 months, it grew back good as new!

Had a dwarf zebra lion that hermits ate his side fins. It took about 6-8 months but they grew back as well.
