H2O2 max concentration... Randy?? Boomer???

Aipstasia is the BIG problem here!!

I have a 90gal mixed reef and Thousands of aipstasia. There is a lot of LR so actual gallons could be 65-75gal.

I have a syringe and I'm going to inject H2O2 into the aipstasia. I might try vinegar too. All other methods exhausted; kalk clogs syringe and most natural methods seem hit or miss.

My question is what amount of H2O2 will begin to create problems in my system??

I know I won't get them all in one day so I will give the tank a few days to re-balance after each eradication.

I just don't want to get carried away while decimating them and lose track of total H2O2 added to system.

Randy or Boomer; Would you feel safer using H2O2, Vinegar, or Draino in small doses to kill pest anemone? which is easiest to overdose?? I read a thread on Draino and they claim you need a saturated solution; is that straight from bottle or mixed with something?

What % H2O2 are going to use ? There is a huge difference. If it is the stuff you get in a drug store or local store 3% put full strength in the syringe. Also how big is the syringe ? I don't want to hear Oh, 1/2 liter and Oh, it is a 10 gal nano-reef :lol:

Draino / Drano

As in which one, who's and what kind. They are not all the same

Crystal Drano / Drano Crystal, is Caustic Soda, Sodium Hydroxide with a saturation pH of 14. You can dissolve it to that pH.

There is also Drain Out Crystal about the same

YOU HAVE TO remove the Aluminum chips from any of these, which is not a big deal as one would not need to much to fill a syringe with the made solution. I happen to have the Drain Out and it is rather easy. Also, there is some Sodium Nitrate in all these products. These may cause similar problems as Kalk, Calcium Hydroxide. What ever you do with this stuff, if you try it, do not be putting some in a glass and then dumping water on it or you may be in for a big surprise. Add it to water.



Drano Liq Professional Strength


Institutional Formula Drano

Both about the same.
These two are the more safe ones, as far as not having other things in them like the others above. These two only have Sodium hydroxide and water. They are powerful but not as powerful as you could get with the crystal forms.



Drano Max
Home formula, not as powerful and has Sodium hydroxide, Sodium silicate, Myristyl dimethyl amine oxide, Sodium hypochlorite (Bleach)


Drano Clog Remover Liquid
Same as above but not as powerful





I do not think Vinegar will do much good.

Ok good info;
There is around 70gal of actual water in system.

I have several sized syringes but don't have to fill it full..

The H2O2 is 3% but it is from an Optometrist and the Dr. said it was extra purified... I assumed he meant low tds in dilution water. What is a dangerous quantity in 65gal?

So it sounds like you would recommend liquid Drano prof. in my case?? What is a dangerous quantity for this in 65gal?

I forgot, if you mix the Sodium Hydroxide with RO/RI there should be no issue with the syringe plugging up.

I don't know /say what the danger levels may be there are to many variables. To much Sodium Hydroxie will just raise the pH and Allk, so one could check on that. If you killed 2 or 3 of them at a time it should not be an issue with any of these.
