H2Overflow

I've got one on my 75 gallon build. I had my LFS drill the tank when I bought it.

I just filled my tank to test my plumbing and so far, I really like this overflow. I've got it running at a full siphon with an emergency overflow. It's super quiet. I can't comment yet on the surface skimming, but so far is seems good on the fresh water currently running through it. Here are some pictures, and a youtube showing how quiet it is:

Here's my video with a Jebao/Jecod DCT-4000 running at about 80%

Emergency Overflow

Any updates guys? Looking into this for my 75 gallon reef setup. Chris, where did you find that emergency overflow setup? Looks awesome.

It's encouraging to see (hear) that it's silent. I never installed mine but I've still got it.

The emergency overflow is definitely a good idea.

This overflow seems a bit dangerous. There looks to be a lot of leverage that can be applied to the back wall of the tank if to much pressure is applied to the overflow. I originally was interested in this overflow, but I don't want to slip with my algae scraper and cause a massive disaster.

That might be the case if the overflow "box" was glued into the elbow. As I have it now, it's just friction fit in the 90. If it gets bumped, it'll just shift and hopefully not cause any strain on the back glass.

When you say you are running at full siphon what does that mean. It looks like is simply a drain. Are you restricting flow with the drain valve to keep the overflow from sucking air?

Thanks.

I too have one of these I've never installed, along with their siphon breaking return. I'll probably go for it now that I see the video and hear that it can be quiet. That was my main concern.

As for breaking the back of the tank by bumping the overflow, the idea seems a little paranoid IMO.

I have a gate valve that does exactly that- restricts the amount of water so it's not drawing any air making it virtually silent.

I had the h2 on my 75 reef and loved it. Was super easy to setup. Then upgraded to 125 and used it again with the syphon stopper. I couldn't be more happy with both. I did use a preexisting hole for my syphon stopper and it was a little low so I just got a new piece of PVC for it that was a little longer. You cB definitely customize them as much as needed if you get the un glued.
