Hair Algae

I have a 220 mixed reef and it had become overgrown with Hair algae. I had done everything to try and reverse the growth. As a last resort I ordered 300 mixed snails and hermits plus 12 pounds of grunge from this vendor (http://www.garf.org/reefjanitors.html). The turn around has been phenomenal. In one month the algae has been reduced by 90% and the coraline algae has begun to grow. I highly recommend this vendor.

Keep an eye out for dead snails. With 300 snails in 220 gallons, you'll probably start losing them after most of the algae is gone. If the carcasses are allowed to dissolve in the water, you might see the algae make a comeback.
