Is this hair algae? I would like to get rid of this before it takes over my tank but would need to identify it first.

Looks like it could be the beginning of it. Blue legs hermits or couple trochus snails ought to take care of it.

Im not a fan of hermits as i have 10+ snails in here. Do you think the trochus snails would do as good of a job as the blue legged hermits would?

test for phosphate and nitrate. using RODI water not tap? I've never had much luck with snails clearing all the GHA in my tanks. Its a nutrient problem. Bigger WC will help. Make sure your not overfeeding.

i know that im not overfeeding but I have to admit i get lazy and might skip water changes once in a while. I also don't use RO water. I feel that its not necessary at the moment because my tap water is fairly clean (around 70 TDS). Compared to RO water thats nothing but right now RO water isn't an option.

My water from tap comes is in the low 30s. Still experienced a lot algae. It took time, but it happened.

What you need is not RO, but rodi which should always be 0.

What are your NO3 & PO4? Look into reducing nutrients, physical removal & get an rodi, if you don't the problem will only get worse.
