Hi guys, I'm new to the site aswell to the hobby and recently after moving around my live rock i saw something that looks like a mushroom but has tenticles or something on it. I have no idea if its good or bad, or what to do with it. Some guidance would be great! thanks

Looks like a hairy mushroom to me, as far as if it is good or bad, it isn't a pest, but it is a mushroom a faster growing coral, so depends on what type of reef you want to have.

phew thank you guys so much! I got a little nervous there, ya i already have another one growing so ill let them be. If too many grow ill just give them out to a friend. Thanks for the help!

Hmm interesting I have hairy mushrooms as well and mine never seem to split/spread just get larger. I have 2 the size of small dinner plates..

I have various other mushrooms as well that are growing/splitting very well.

Any ideas?

Over the years, I have had 2 different types of hairy shrooms. The more common as seen in the OP pictures above. They spread fast for me as they seem to slide from spot to spot dropping babies off. The other kind I had got much larger - 6"+ for me and don't split as often. Main diiference of the second type was when they caught food they closed up into a ball and kinda looked like a greenish baseball sitting on the rock. Maybe that is what you have??

you could try cutting the mushroom downt he center with a razor blade to help the process along

Exactly what mind does. Mine has bright yellow tips and much more densitiy of "tentacles" or whatever you call it.

Stiffwind - Can you get a better pic of the mouth?? Also, what type of lighting do you have? They also almost look like small GBTAs. The base in the first pic looks non-shroomish (ya, just made that word up!) In the pics, some of the tentacles look like they might be bubbling.
