Wanted to see if any of the local folks are still using halides and if so what wattage, how high off of the tank, and how deep is your tank? Thanks everyone and merry christmas/happy holidays!

single 400 here, but in the process of switching to 2 250wt bulbs on my tank for little better coverage. 400 is 9 inches off the water and the tank is 24 inches deep.

So are you sacrificing par for coverage? Aside for power consumption and heat output would 2x400 watt bulbs be too much for a 24" deep tank?

I ran 2 - 400w halides over a 75 for several years. It was the best color and growth I have ever seen. I've been runnining 2 - 250w Radiums over my 120 for the past 10 years.

Current 250w Radiums on HQi electronic ballasts with Lumen Brite reflectors. The bulbs are about 10-11" off the water. Tank is 25" deep.

No. I sacrifice no par. I get about 1000 at the water and 800 right under the water and plenty of par down the whole tank.
