halimeda going white questions

i have quite a bit of halimeda growing in my tank. once it gets to a certain length the tips turn white and break off. the plants continue to grow........and it repeats.

i was wandering if the white brittle parts of the plant really need to be removed from the tank?? will the calcium the halimeda had consumed be rereleased??? from my understanding these dont really suck up too many nutriends mainly just calcium?? is there any danger with the white stuff??

i have had no problems with these events going on in my tank i was just curious what the results of the white halimeda pieces really are??

sounds like your algae is just going through it's life cycle. I leave my bleached halimeda in the tank. it will be recycled. I have a 20l prop tank where I put the halemida in my overflow filter
