Hammer being eaten

Over the last week it's had several tips nipped off and today a big chunk. I suspect my wrasse and that has been removed from the tank for now.

The hammer is now looking worse for wear and very unhappy. What can I do to help it and is it likely to survive? Thanks.

Have u seen thevwrasse actually biting the flesh of the coral? I think it is unlikely that the wrasse is a issue, but u never know & some types of wrasses may be more likely.

A lot of times when euphylia isn’t healthy they actually lose their polyps & u will find them on the sandbed. That looks to be a wall hammer. They are very hard to keep & most are not successful. If u want to try another in the future try the branching variety

Yes the wrasse has been suspected for several days and we saw it take the chunk shown in the photos

The hammer was healthy and growing steadily prior. The wrasse has also been bullying other fish

We accidentally bought a wall hammer. Didn’t know there were two types and had good luck with the branching ones. Ours was shrinking after we put it in and after research realized they do not do good same places as a branching. Moved it to the sand, out of direct current and a lot less light. It looks great again. Maybe that would help yours recover?
