Hammer coral

ColinAbi

Hola
What is the going price for 1 head of a hammer coral? Looking to buy my first coral and saw a lfs selling 1 head for 20$. Is that expensive?

That seems a little high, although for retail not outrageous. While I am somewhat hesitant to steer people to Tong's, they usually will have a few hammers in their $10 bin.

Also depends on the color. The "toxic" and yellow/orange ones are more expensive. Green and blue are cheapest.

I can cut you a free frag if you want

Do you not like Tongs? I just won't buy fish or inverts from there cause all the ones I have bought were diseased but is there something wrong with their corals too?

That would be great but I need to buy test kits for Ca, Mag, and KH first before I get any corals.

At a LFS 15-20 isn't outrageous, but you can probably get one from a local guy for a lot less. I found a 50+ head toxic/painted for $40 from a guy... so I got lucky and sell new growth for cheap

Wow, that sounds like a good deal.

I don't have issues with most of their corals although they do dye some of their soft corals.

Do they dye the coral to make them look nicer? Also, where do they keep the bin with the hammer corals because I saw the tank with corals for 5$ and another tank for 10$ coral and I didn't see any hammer corals. Do they only have them sometimes?

let me know when you are ready. I have tons of beginner corals.

dosing isn't necessary for you yet... and with a few corals only, you don't have to monitor parameters as long as you keep regular water changes..

but you are on the right track. good to know all your parameters
