Hammer Question

I bought a hammer and when the guy touched it to pick it up it retracted so I could see its skeleton. After acclimating I put it in and its the same. Im not worried just wondering how long it usually takes for it to open up.

Once I acclimated my frogspawn, which is very similar to hammers, it took maybe an hour to open up, about two days to open up even more. Everytime I get new corals, I acclimate them and then feed them Formula One food, and ten minutes later, they look SO good and happy.

Good luck.

Its been three and he hasnt come out much if at all. I put food on his tentacles and its sticking a little but starting to come off. He is also doing this wierd thing with his mouth. Something comes out and gets sucked back in. Should I be worried or is he just acclimating still?

Well I just turned on the lights and it looks worse. I can see less tentacles and they are very shriveled. I just looks bare almost. I shut off a powerhead to see if less flow helps. Also my open brain is doing great. Any advice?

From the picture you posted, it looks like your hammer is almost gone. I do not see much flesh at all-mostly skeleton. I can't tell if the hammer is closed up-or just not much alive there. When you say you saw it open-how long were the tentacles? Did you ever see it inflated(like other hammer picture posts)? I hope I am just not seeing your picture correctly and your hammer makes it, but I think your LFS sold you an almost dead hammer.
Hope Im wrong-good luck

Yes, it does not look good. However, do not pull it out yet. I have one that when I brought it home, it deteriorated until it had only a small bit of flesh left on one head. It slowly (over months) started coming back and a year later, it is doubled in size.
