Hang On Float Valve

Looking to add a gravity fed cheap ATO to my students' (3) reef tanks. Anyone know of a hang-on back float valve like Eshopps that isn't $25?

Also if I lift the reservoir up to gravity feed out of it can I run the tube from the bottom of the reservoir up out the top and back down into the tank (like a gravity siphon). Or do I need to have the tube exit the bottom of the reservoir with some sort of mini bulkhead?

I have a float valve (possible a older version of a ATO)you can have. I have not tested it, but it's yours if you want to play with it. It came off a old customer's tank.
The 10gal tank, filter for you mom and a box of goodies is also here waiting for you as well.
