Happy Day!

About a year ago, I bought 2 Griessinger gobies. Those who knew better (thanks Dave and Danny) told me ... "Go ahead and put them in your tank. You'll never see them again."

Sure enough ... they're incredibly shy. Throughout the last year, I see one maybe once a month and he jumps back to hide if I move anywhere near the tank to get a better look. Any time I see one, I stare and stare hoping to get a glimpse of the other to see if there are two still alive and had pretty well concluded that only one made it.

Recently I lost the last of the large fish in this 24 gallon. On Tuesday, I went into Kermits and got a Rainford's goby, a Redhead, and a little zebra goby for the tank. Then at Memfish, found a little neon goby to add. I've learned my lesson trying to have big fish in a small tank and went the opposite extreme.

Well ever since all those little fish are in the tank, I'm seeing the Griessinger ALL THE TIME! I don't know if it's because he's trying to defend territory, if he's curious, or just figures ... well there's other little fish out there and nothing is happening to them so maybe I can come out, too.

Tonight, for the first time in a YEAR, both Griessingers are out together!!! They're both still alive! I'm SO excited! One is much bigger and has more spots. The other is smaller. The big one looked like he was dancing for the other one and was waggling, waving his fins and popping his long dorsal fin up and down even more than usual for the way they swim. I think they're a pair the way they're moving with each other.

I was so awestruck watching that I didn't think to get my camera. And even so, I'd be so afraid to scare them with the flash. Will DEFINITELY need to capture this on film some how.

Just saw them out again and it is definitely spawning behavior. This is soooooo coool!

Here is a pic I took of one of them while acclimating before I put it in the tank:

I REALLY wanted a pair of these in my 6gal but at $140 each I couldn't do it. Glad yours are out and about now. Get the camera!!

With your luck raising baby clowns, maybe you can raise some of these and give your fellow club members a discount!!! Truly beautiful fish!!

Thanks!

I never guessed I'd end up with a pair. It was an accident. I ordered them from 2 separate places not thinking that one of the orders went through. There was nothing to do once they both came in but to accept them both. I was just hoping one would live ...never dreamed I might get a pair. I've never seen a pair of these offered anywhere.

I feel very lucky .... fish nirvana. I hope I can capture them dancing on video. It was beautiful.

Oh that would be awesome! I don't know how. I saw them dancing but don't know anything past that. ;)

Besides ..... I just converted the clown baby tank to a Catalina Goby tank.

Hmmmm.....

Might be worth a try. I'll start studying and looking for nests.

I said no such a thing. I said press them between two panes of glass and have them mounted on the wall.

Actually, that is about what I remember you saying.

That would have been a sure way to see them more.

Thanks for helping me with all those little fish.
I'm glad you talked me into the Red Head (I know ... it wasn't hard to talk me into it). I kind of took him because he was small and available more than cause I liked him that much. But that fish has the best personality out of all of them and is really pretty with the halide lights on him.

I'm enjoying this set up MUCH more than when I was trying to fit the biggest fish I could into the space I had. A big lesson learned here for me.

Experimenting with a new source for photo posting: This picture is really rough, but you can see the back of one and the head of the other Griessinger.
