Happy Leather Corals

Leather are happy if:
a) their polyps are withdrawn and they have a leather-like appearance
b) polyps are all out

Which is it? anyone know?

polyps being out would of course indicate they are happy, but the polyps being withdrawn doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. They will sometimes close up for a week or more, become "shiny" then shed a saran wrap type film and open up again. The only "unhappy" leather is one that melts and/or starts dissolving.

thats what happening to me. Polyps are closed, the coral's looking shiny and leathery, and a thin layer of skin or something is peeling away... what does this mean?

internal housecleaning or whatever, plus the slough gets rid of any stuff that has attached to the leather's surface. they usually come back bigger and badder looking after one of those time-outs too. This is a healthy normal function and is to be expected periodically from a healthy normal leather. :D
