Hard Water stain on Glass??

So I have 150 rimless tank. I think the previous owner had the water level in the tank about 1.5-2 inches below the top.

I have my level almost near the top. But in that 1.5-2.0 inches it's like it's a hard water stain on the glass and I can't seem to scrub it clean. Fortunately it's not the full length of the tank but about half of it.

Any ideas of how to remove that? I tried my stainless steel scraper but that didn't do it. I tried scrubbing with a aquarium cleaning pad.

Any other ideas? Thanks!

CLR works (calcium lime rust, all natural cleaning product). You're just gonna have to figure out how to prevent it from getting in your water. There's plenty of cleaning products out there for that, some chemical and some natural. Not sure if scraping it will work. Good luck.

I had the same issue with my tank when I first got it.. I soaked it with vinegar and then scraped it with razor blade(before I put water in it lol) seemed to work pretty good?

thank you all for your suggestions! I think I'll try to scrap very carefully with a razor and see if that will do it.

Mekesterson..thanks! here's a FTS...150 gallon, 6ft tank, 60 gal sump, just got AI Sol blue lights set up...only at about 35% intensity...love them so far!

Be super careful with a razor! you dont want to permanently scratch your glass. Vinegar works like a charm! and will totally remove the water stain. Do a water change and drain the tank down a quarter and then rub it with a paper towel with vinegar. the build up is a base and the vinegar dissolves it. also works well on old equipment with build up on it that you want to clean. just soak in a mix of Vin and water.

+1 to landshark about blade.. but as long as the tank is not acrylic the glass should be harder than blade and resist being scratched.. either way be careful lol. Great shot of your tank

put vinegar on a rag, soak the stain and use a razor.
the vinegar will help dissolve the stain and make the razor easier to use when sliding the blase across the glass.
works for me. GL

By the way, getting small amounts of vinegar in your tank is perfectly safe if you have a skimmer. If you're not familiar, look up carbon dosing. It'll cause the beneficial bacteria in your tank to grow, but too much can cause a bacteria bloom which can drop oxygen levels in your tank to dangerous levels. you may want to consider only cleaning a portion at a time to limit how much vinegar is assed to the tank during the cleaning process. For a 150gallon, I'd say you'd be safe with additions of 20-40mL of vinegar at once. Just get a shot glass of vinegar, clean what you can, and once it's gone, stop cleaning. Then you can come back if needed and finish the job in a couple of days with another shot glass of vinegar. Good luck!
