Harlequin Tusk in a reef

Anyone doing this?

Are they a threat to corals, or just mobile inverts? Are shrimps, crabs, urchins and snails doomed or do they have a chance? How about smaller fish?

I have one with some corals (used to be a full reef, but was too much work).

He'll take out all mobile inverts except urchins. I have 4 tuxedos with him doing fine. Experience varies with them being totally safe with all mobile inverts to even eating urchins, so you really can't know ahead of time.

They're completely coral safe, though.

Smaller fish are fine if they're added before the tusk, ime. These guys grow to 10-12" and with those teeth, they certainly could, but they're primarily invert eaters so it's up to you if you want to try. Anything small added after a larger tusk could be food before it hits the water.

Hmm.

I have an unlimited supply of snails and not-reef-safe-hermits, so that would be fun for him. Still not sure though...

yep friend of mine has one in his 800gal said hes been fine except he snails. but if thats no problem go for it.

If you can live with a CuC eater, I think they're very much worth it. Mine is my favorite fish with loads of personality. He's beautiful and dog-like in personality.
