Pacific Coast Reef Salt,
Part Number SL-PCSS3-50 from Custom Aquatics.
$19.99 for 150gal mix

Does anyone have any experience with this product?

Thanks

Never jeard of it but here is a free bump. I wonder if it is any good. Beats the price I pay for tropic marine pro.

Yep, the price sure got my attention. And it claims to be phosphate free, and have reef levels of Ca and Mg.

I saw a box of it -- It doesn't list anything on the box. No listing of additives, readings, information, contact info, company name - It just says "Made in China".

A little to plain to make me comfortable.

most of your plane's are made in china..what are you complaining about?

Thanks for the feedback! I emailed Pacific Coast, I hope I hear from them with more info.
nic: the price sure it tempting!
koiandcoral: I wonder if there is more info in the actual bag. I have seen some bulk boxes of salt and there is not much info in the outside of the box. Mind if I ask what store you saw it at?
F18: I am not buying this until I hear others experience with it, I am not ready to put my tank as a guinea pig  Or maybe I can buy one bag for the next time I need to cure live rock? hehe
Tetra: are these toy planes you are referring to?

Nothing derogatory intended about where it was made.

Just that on the box. There was "No" information at all. Some salts list the company name, company address, company website, contents of salt, analysis of salt, expected levels of salt, info on how to mix.

The box I saw (which was about 1/2 a pallet) said - 'Pacific Coast Reef Salt' and 'Made in China' nothing more and nothing less.

The one box that was open, had just a plain bag.

Knowing that the China's manufacturing process for aquarium products is not always consistent, and their quality control is not a priority for the aquarium trade -- The fact that the company was not listing any information just caused me some hesitation.

nicholas, that is the one, I think it is the same company that markets the PCL chillers and other popular items in this hobby

Drake: Oceanpure is good stuff. I use it at times but I would like Mg to be higher.
I don't know if you remember, but when OceanPure irst came out, lots of people suggested reefers to stay away from it, suggesting it was just cheap "lobster" salt.

Benny, try the OceanPure Pro. Anthony tested it and it had much higher Mg levels than the regular stuff.

Kenny, I heard good things about the OceanPure pro version. But I think it sells for the same price as kent, which is what I use now.

Update: I contacted Pacific Coast and weeks later I received samples of their salt. Mixed a couple gallons, and tested with what I have:
sg 1.025 (refractometer)
pH 8.30 (hannah meter)
NO2 0 (aquarium pharm)
NO3 0 (aquarium pharm)
NH4 0.25 (aquarium pharm)
Alk 7.5 dKH (Salifert)
Ca 450 ppm (Salifert) / 500 ppm (aquarium pharm)
Mg 1185 (Salifert)
PO4: 0.01 (hannah colorimeter)
Phosphate could be 0, since I get 0.01 to 0.02 ppm PO4 in my RODI water.

nicholas: no problem. Now I just wonder how the tank will react to it :p i don't know if I have the guts to use in my tank just yet.

F18: thanks Trung. Well to be honest, my tank has not changed much. Still have no canopy. I have been busy so I have been doing minimal work on the tank. I actually disconnected the Ca reactor to clean it up and it is still offline.
Have you got the tank yet? Any help you need, just let me know!

Wow, those are pretty good results, altho Alk and Mg are a tad low, but not a big deal. Thanks for the info.

So is Custom Aquatics the only place that sells this salt? Shipping cost ain't gonna be cheap.

BTW I have no affiliation to PCI, or any LFS, I am just trying to save some $ :p

Also, if anyone is interested a sample of this salt for testing, let me know, I can set aside some baggies. I can also bring some over at the next SCMAS meeting.

I don't have reliable test kits for NO3, and wonder how other tests would turn out.
