Has your H. Mag/Ritterei split?

I have had the same Heteractis Magnifica for 8 years now, and it has produced a total of 3 clones, two in my tank and then one clone split again at the Greenwich Aquaria. So now I'm curious how many others have similar experience with their H. Mags.

Has your H. Mag split? Do you have pictures? How long have you had it?

Thanks!

Joe

Congrates, you must have a good strain that likes to assexually reproduce. Mine have never naturally split. The first pic looks bleached some but I guess that is when you first got it. Do know of an triggers that you might have done to cause the split?

I have heard of the Greenwich Aquaria. I need to make a road trip up there soon. Beautiful craftsmenship and the most upscale reef store I have ever seen pictures of.

Triggers.

Triggers.

I spent some time trying to guess at the triggers, but honestly I have no idea. The clone I gave to Jason Edward at Greenwich Aquaria grew quickly because of his aggressive tank feeding regimen. It was roughly the same size as the original anemone when his split. Just yesterday it dawned on me that my split occured when the anemone was big enough to be brushing up against surrounding corals in several locations which was the same for Jason's anemone. So territorial limitations might be something to investigate.

And, yes you're exactly right the first photo was when I was just starting out in the late fall of '01. The anemone was bleached, had no stickiness, couldn't sting at all, was smaller than a baseball, and constantly moved around

Also, if you're up the NY way you definitely need to stop by Jason's store. He has the nicest LFS I have ever seen, and everyone at the shop is as friendly as can be plus experienced as well.

On a side note, I found Flighty's thread, Fragged My Magnifica soon after posting this thread , but I'm not ready to try that quite yet. So I'm looking for more clues on splits from my fellow reefers. Although admittedly being able to slice H. Mags in half successfully would radically alter their availability. So many questions and so little research . . . Maybe when I retire, in a couple decades, I can take up the cause :p
