Hatching woes

The oc pair I got from Nicole has once again laid a very loose nest (but large) scattered all over the flowerpot sides and bottom. I lost most of the last one because I just couldn't figure a way to get good flow across all the eggs. This time I am thinking to just cut the pot open so I can get air under all of the nest OR use water instead. I'm thinking a small p-head suspended inside a plankton screen with a short hose directing flow into the pot. I should be able to get them all moving that way. Any other ideas to consider?

I agree, best hatch/survival % on those hard-to-aerate nests if you don't mind staying up late

Eeeeewwwww!!!!! That is a discusting thought :eek1: It's just so much more fun to build a better moustrap than do something so simple Besides, if I stay up that late I might spill my Glenlivit into the tank or siphon out sand grains thinking I hit the motherload.

I'm not carryin' around the single malts, but larvae don't seem to mind a splash of corona too much

I found a solution that has been working for me with hard to aerate nests - I picked up a few large bubble disks from petsmart. I found one big enough to stand a whole pot (or frag of pot) on and get pretty good coverage. Rather than having one directed stream with a bubble stone, go for the saturation effect.

I bought one of those but it won't stay down on it's own, needs weights. Is there a brand that is weighted and stays put?

glue it to a tile or a piece of pvc.

I glued freshwater plant weights to the bottom (sorry, should have mentioned that)

Larvae collection with a moon light is the way to go IMO. Just make sure your not collecting mysis . A nice shiraz or merlot helps things along.
