have a little problem

last tuesday i bought some magician palys from a local reefer, she had them with her since 10:30am and i picked them up at 5:30 pm, they were opening in the bag and looked great! with in 15 mins of them entering the tank they were open. the next day they didnt open and they havent opened since. of the 2 polyp frag i got 1 polyp left and i would really like to save it. it is like they are deteriorating from the inside out and shrinking in size. all other zoas are doing great in the tank.

Hello. Hmmm is that a brown string coming out of the palys mouth in the second pic? Could be zooxanthellae being released from stress (from the move). I have had a few close for a day or two upon introduction to my tank then reopen and be as healthy as can be. I wouldn't write them off yet and just say they are getting acclimated to your tanks settings.

eh duh...my bad..for some reason I thought you bought them yesterday but it was last tuesday (its sunday...tired). Have you tried placing them in another location? perhaps with more flow?

that string that you through was zooxanthellae is actually the rock. i moved it to another tank 2 days after i had it and still no luck

they are both gone now.

zoas are picky, I would say with a frag that small its 50/50 for most people. You best bet is to do extremely slow acclimations to both water and light.

Sorry to hear about your loss Jarred1. Like manhorsedog said it is taking a chance with such small frags. That is why many are upset with the extreme prices on such small frags. Your other polyps look really nice though.

Did you do any dips or lighting acclimation?

i didnt dip them in anything (i dont dip any of my corals), as for light acclimation i put them all the way at the bottom on a 20 long with 2 65w power compacts.

the person i got them from had another frag that she made from her colony and it melted away over the weekend but the colony she has looks great and are always open. i just dont understand what could have happend
