Things are going well, my 20 Gallon high is almost a year old!! I love my tank but I'm starting to get into a rut with it. Some of the choices I made when I first started are really starting to bug me. Corals I bought cheap that are now attached to my main rocks and cannot get rid of. I have lots of coralline algae and my other corals are growing well but I think i need to do something different.

Has anyone completely changed their rockscape and sand bed without a lot of die off?

I think I'm ready to go with more advanced lighting as well, any recommendations to sit on a glass top? I am not really looking for anything to be hanging. I currently have an orbit led by current USA. It's a neat light that has a lot of controlled features like sunrise, thunderstorms ect. But I doubt it's suitable for anything other the softies and some LPS corals.

Any recommendations to get me out of this rut would be appreciated.

Like anything else in this hobby, there are going to be differing opinions on this...

Changing lighting is easy, if not cheap, but doing so WILL impact your corals... they need to be acclimated to a change in lighting very slowly. The only LED I have experience with is the HALO unit, and I don't know how well it would suit your needs.

My first reef, I happily accepted frags from anyone who would give me one. Most of them brown, some of them invasive. Over time, I became very selective as to what goes in my tank.

At one time, I 'traded' 100+ pounds of live rock, covered with softies, zoanthids, mushrooms, etc, to a LFS for 100lbs of fresh, uncured live rock, and started with SPS and LPS. The LFS was happy as they could be to do the trade, made a killing on it.

i have changed my aquascaping probably 10 times in 2 years however messing with the sand bed is something i try not to do. i wouldnt worry about moving around rock but sandbed does have alot of nasty buildup within it

One of the rocks I have is large and a very nice shape with purple coralline but it's covered in Kenya tree that I have to trim weekly bc it's so invasive. I not even sure my LFS would take it! What did you do with your sand bed? I have tons of rubble I'd like to clear out for a cleaner look. Also If I move rocks with they bleach out?
