Have questions about coral

Im having problems with my lights and cant get them to work. I have a bunch of corals that I got with my tank yesterday and am affraid of what can happen to them. All help is needed!!!

What kind of lights, and what are they doing?

What kind of corals? Unless you have a lot of SPS, they will be fine for a few days with little to no light. Even SPS would likely be okay (all other things well in line), but they'd be more of what I worry about.

Theres frogspawn, couple mushrooms, st thomas, a couple LPS, some polyps. I want to hope I can get the lights to work, but I may be just buying some t5s.

You have mostly LPS. If you can some light on them you"ll be ok. After getting a chance to clean and chk. things out I am affraid the guy you got this from sucker you some. The pump that h said just had a hum he did'nt like, well all it does is hum. no running at all. The canister filter I brought home is in bad shape as well. I would assume that the lights are probally shot if you can;t get them to work at all. VHO's can be a pain in the @#$#@. From what I have brought home that he had none of it works. Hit him up when you go back for the eel. I would. Just my oppinion.

I got one to power on last night then unplugged it to get the other to work and plugged it in and nothing. Im gonna have to get an electrical tester to check. I found these

That will work. I like the look of MH my self. It will take about a week to get to you. Make sure it comes with bulbs. Some time the good deals dont include bulbs. Have you looked at aquatrader.com? I have a light I could lend you if you wanted to come get it and return it to me. If you have at least two of the bulbe burning you should be fine untill you get a new light. I have two VHO bulbs in my closet. They will never be used but I can't seem to just throw them out for some reason.

I don't know much about the Odyssea T5's, but a friend got a 175W DE, dual fixture with PC's a few years back (only DE 175W I've ever seen) and it left a lot to be desired. The T5's may be fine, though. Check out Hellolights, too and see what they have. It seems like they had a decent set up for $100 or so a few months back. When looking at T5's, the W reflectors are the best way to go. The ones with flat reflectors (one solid flat back for all bulbs) don't put nearly as much light down to the tank as individual reflectors (or W shapes), but you are using the same amount of elec and same heat... Tek lighting has a good fixture (for an idea of what I mean by W reflectors, if you aren't sure), and I think the Hellolights fixtures were similar.

I got my T5's from Hellolights, fast shipping and great customer service They really work good on my tank. I got the retro kits, it saved a little money.

I ended up buying a T5 set from ebay, I, going to buy new lights though for it. What company gives the best bang for the buck??

I'm a Geismann fan. T5 bulbs (48" and under) generally run for $25 a piece or less, so they are one of the cheaper bulb out there. I use reefgeek for bulbs (and a good many other things).
