Are you looking for scientific names or the cutesy names?

If cutesy names, I won’t be much help as I can’t stand that trend in the hobby.

If scientific names, if I have time when I get home tonight, I’ll break out my Veron books and see what I can come up with. That said, the only way to truly identify Acros is by skeletal analysis.

Scientific is definitely what I’m looking for too all those names are so stupid 😂 you’re awesome thank you!
Like I said, if I have time tonight, I'll break out the Veron book and see if I can make any further educated guesses.

If you don't already have it, I highly recommend Corals of the World by J.E.N. Veron. Very expensive but great books. I bought my set back in the 1990s and it was around $200 then in my memory serves me.

I too am not a fan of all the common names generated. You might also check another book by Veron, Corals of Australia and Indo Pacific. It's not nearly as comprhensive as his "World" but it is more affordable. The Australian Institute of Marine Sciences (AIMS) has Veron's research in the "Data" section of their website.

Disclaimer, my ID process if far from scientific. I’m looking at pics, going with my gut based on late 1990s early 2000s memories from my Acro heydays (just seriously getting back in now), then looking up my gut feel in Veron and comparing.

7 - A. Cophodactyla

So, as I said, you really need skeletal analysis to positively ID and even then, you may be wrong😉. These are all my best guesses based on pics posted on the net, looking at Veron, 20+ year keeping Acros, and over 40 years reef keeping.

While I enjoy SPS I suck at scientific names (and most cartoon names) but agree with Griss on 3 and 8
Milles are one of my favorite Acros even though I haven’t had one in years.

They are only second to A. Sarmentosa… I had an awesome yellow/green one of those years ago and haven’t seen one like it since. Even @therman said he’s not seen anything like it recently.
