have you guys seen the wild caught golden clownfish?

why? misbars, funky patterns, and nakeds all happen in nature.. this isn't the first "oddball" to be caught..

Color and lack of a pattern (naked). One of these traits is extremely rare in nature, but both make it even more unlikely. It is more probable someone selectively bred for those traits than it occurred naturally. I realize that it's not impossible, but until someone can prove it's lineage, I will most likely remain skeptical.

i posted this topic in the nem and clownfish subforum yesterday... i agree wit winwood, the way private breeding is done now a days. i would strongly suggest this fish is "manufactured" rather then wild caught. for such an impressive "catch" there isnt much info...

this is a wild caught clown from Bali, and was imported by Hao Hoi Aquarium in hong kong. the fish currently lives with Dr. wing chung.

yes it's crazy from a genetic perspective how a clown can look like this. however if we take a look at it from another angle, and consider aberrations instead of genetic mutations. if centropyges and other reef fishes can have xanthic morphs that turn the whole fish yellow or koi coloured, why not clowns?

assuming this is a xanthic clown, it will be a matter of time before it changes its colour back to wild type. as we know, most xanthic fishes cannot keep their color in captivity. only time will tell. i regularly exchange with dr chung so i'll ask for an update in a few months.

however it could be a genetic thing. barless, colourless, extremely random mutation. what are the odds huh.

Are you still in touch with Dr Chung? I can't find any information about this clownfish other than its original videos. Would love to know if it's been paired up or still around.
