Have you seen this tank Matt?

Wow, those pictures are neat. I think I've seen one of them on here before, but lots of new ones there. So much for our saying that every tank needs a pair of clowns. Every tank needs DOZENS of clowns :D

That is awesome. What does it take to keep that many clowns in the same tank from killing each other?

I was wondering the same thing myself.

I always thought more than a pair was trouble. Do you know of many tanks keeping multiples like that Matt?

This is for Mel so she doesn't have to clicky:p

If you were to put a small number of clowns in a tank, aggression will usually target the smaller/weaker fish and eventually they will kill each-other. If one places a larger number of clowns together (preferably of the same size), the aggression is spread-out and they seem to get-along fine for a long time.

We have a retail shop customer (Rare Aquatics; they also do set-ups and maintenance) who has set-up a few dozen tanks with 36 ocellaris and a mix of a few other species all in the same tank. He (also named Matt) says that they do fine and his customers are very happy with the look of the tank. He's been doing this for more than two years now (I was shipping fish to him out of my basement back then  )

Here is a recent pic he sent us (We have his permission to use it, as I have a collection of pictures of his/our setups he sent me that I am supposed to put on our website...)

My tank is starting to look like that with all the freaking RBTA's... I have 3 in the 58 right now...

Matt~ Would it make a difference if the clowns had multiple anemone's to host in??? Not that I'm going to try it... Just wondering...

I don't know about that one, but I would guess so. It might give them more structure to their territories so they don't fight too much over the sole anemone.

Thats what I was thinking too... I think you should try it once you get the reef systems going... ;)

Randy,

Let me know when you get ready to remove one of the RBTA's. I've never had a red one:).

Matt,

To do something like this, what would you say the minimum size tank would need to be (maybe from Rare Aquatics experience, etc.)?

Will do Gary... :)

I would think longer tanks with more distance in them would be better, as opposed to gallonage??? Like a 135 (72x18x24) would be better than a 150 (48x24x30)???

Just a guess... :)

Hmmm...wonder if I could keep an anemone?

I'm honestly not that into coral anymore but my fish are doing fantastic. I even kept alive those feather dusters I bought in Chattanooga a while back! Well...I found one of the two. They got buried by Jaws. One popped out of the sand, but I think the other is just in the back.

Thanks for the picture Chris, but I DID in fact click the link! hah hah. Keep doing that though because that was a once in a while kind of thing (me clicking the link, I mean).

What lights do you have on your tank Mel?

I would think so too. I need to ask Matt at Rare Aquatics more about his setups. I haven't spoken to him in a while, as he mostly calls the office phone now, and my hands are usually wet ;)

Chris...I have no idea. I think they're supposed to be T5s but they're some kind of weird looking T5 that looks more like a PC.

I'm thinking keeping a tank raised bubble tip wouldn't be a problem in your tank Mel but hard to tell for sure not knowing the lights.
Maybe someone else will chime in.

Matt,

Not to sidetrack but did you see the 2 nanocubes at MACNA loaded with clowns? It did look pretty amazing with all of them in there. Me and Nik picked up the small biocube so we could get the seahorses...thats the only way we could get them.

I know when I used to keep/breed African cichlids if you "overstocked the tank slightly the aggression was so spread out the damage of the streesed fish was minimal. It just means you have to be diligent with
water change

Mel you could keep one in your tank, they are T5's just a special T5 made for those tanks specifically, just to make sure you have to buy theirs I'm sure = )

Those Nanocubes at MACNA were pretty with all of that color, but they were definitely packed with fish. Nice score on the seahorses, but strange that you had to buy the tank?!
