Have you visited the Georgia Aquarium?

As it turns out I'll be in Atlanta conveniently the week BEFORE MACNA and its kiling me! Then I realized that, well, despite the convention, the Aquarium is there all year round so I'm trying to modify my trip to be able to see it!!!

I was wondering for those of you who were able to go, do you recall how long it took you to view the whole aquarium? I don't mean in the style of a mom taking her kids for the day either but like, hardcore reefer who wants to poke her head into every nook and cranny there is.

I was planning on going Thursday night to get in around midnight, check into hotel and go to a different convention that is from Fri-Mon, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't leave *really* early Thursday morning and try to make it to Atlanta and see the aquarium before checking into the hotel.

Thanks for your help!!!

Its been a year since I have been, but it was awesome. I think it took my friend and I about 5 hours to see it all. Totaly worth the money. Get your tickets in advance though cause it sells out. And I bet with it being the summer its going to be busy.

It took me almost 4hrs though I was with the family, that was last yr.We're going this July (20th) to six flags so is a most to stop by again and enjoy it better.

I am going up August 28th or so to Dragoncon in Atlanta. Okay, I admit it, totally geeking it out. It's a convention where television and movie stars from sci-fi, fantasy, and horror come out to meet their fans and there's lots of events like a parade and stuff. Normally the people who go there dress up as their favorite character too. Fun stuff (like Megacon here but 10x the size)

I am going with some friends so I think I must force them to go with me! If I left here at 5am I'm guessing we'd get there in time to enjoy most of the aquarium if we went straight there. Going to rent a Prius and drive up for the better gas mileage.

It took me with my family 5 hours in Dec-95, it all depends on how much time you want to expend on each of the attractions, we really enjoyed it.

i went last summer and i loved it!!!! After seeing the GA aquarium i feel really bad for the inhabitants for exhibits at other places!Puts the local aquatic mammal displays like the whales at sea world to shame!!!! make sure to allot at least 5 hour hours, there is plenty to see and do! even if your traveling there with people who are not fellow reefers you all will spend a descent amount of time at the main display tank with the whale sharks just sitting there staring at the fish and space out, That tank is AMAZING!!! its so big the whale sharks disappear, they have schools of groupers swimming around. And the reef tank is insane!!!! I had to be dragged out of that room!!!! Def buy a bigger memory card for your digital camera before you go you won't be disappointed! have fun!!!!

I wish I had time to do the backstage tour. Definitely purchase your tickets ahead of time like they said before...it sells out quick. Have fun!

Thanks for the info guys. When you say buy tickets in advance do you think like at the start of the month if im going at the end or even earlier??

Yep, I think we gotta leave here at 5am, /shiver. It's doable. I can't wait!!

1.5 hours by myself. I didn't spend much time in the areas that every aquarium has (seals, dolphins and such). Most of it was spent in the reef section, the "big" tank, and suprisingly the freshwater stuff.
