I just upgraded from point-and-shot to DSLR (Rebel Xti). I´m totally newbie in photography, but this lens is so good that still can take some interesting pictures of my tank:

Beautiful pictures! Especially for a said newbie. The field of depth is off on a few of them but that comes with practice. Love all the colors. That superman is beautiful.

My old camera was a Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 and this month was the first time I touch a DSLR in life. Even to add frames with PS Elements took me some time to learn how to...

But I had to took almost 2000 shots to select this few ones was not that easy :)

All the pictures was taken on mode Macro, P or TV since I´m not confortable to complete set up it by myself. Most of them was aperture 2.8 and exp. 40 to 100, ISO 200 or 400.

Jim, any tips to improve field of depth ?

Tks, guys!

Don't use such a small aperture. If you can close the aperture down a little, say ~ f5.6-11, it should improve your DOF. Also you will need to try and keep your ISO as low as possible to avoid noise. A shutter speed for coral is ~1/10 if the power heads, etc. are off. Fish are more like a 1/30 shutter speed. It's different in every tank depending on lighting, water movement & clarity, etc.

Keep playing, those look gorgeous!
