Hawaiin feather duster going cross country

I have a large Hawaiin feather duster that started in the sand, sort of in a rock crevice. Over a period of a six months it has added to the front of its tube at a rapid rate and as it builds its tube, the tube adheres to the rock it is adjacent to. At this point, the original "back end" of the tube is inches above the sand and this ugly tube is now crossing a big rock right in the front of the tank. The head of the tube is now blocking full view of a nice Lobophyllia and the tube is beginning to adhere to the Lobo (fortunately below the fleshy area). I really like the feather duster and it is thriving, but I am wondering is it possible to move it without killing it? Gentle experimentation indicates that the tube seems to rip if I try to pull it away from the rock. Any suggestions?
