i just started noticing yesterday that my flame hawk is starting to constantly perch on my yellow leather. The yellow leather usually is fully open and looks awesome but now the flame hawk is sitting on it and it closes up...Its really annoying me and Im ready to strangle the hawk at this point. What can I do about this other then removing one or the other from the tank?

hmmmm...lol

sorry. it's kinda funny. Have you tried "shoeing" him off?

If it were me, I'd keep a rod or something closeby, and whenever he sat on that I'd stick it in there and scare him off.

Other than that, I think you might be sol. good luck!

Unfortunately, that is kinda what hawkfish do. They love to perch on stuff including corals. I guess you could try to block the leather off with a little basket, like the basket that strawberrys come in, and see if that helps.

My tang used to nip at my clams after feeding time. I would keep an acrylic rod by the tank an give it a little tap everytime it touched a clam. It doesn't touch the clams now...kinda what sk8rreefgeek was saying

Sunfish11 is correct, that's what hawkfish do, they perch like hawks. If it was me, I'd try parking my algea cleaning magnet higher than the top of the yellow leather on the same side of the tank. Reason being that the hawk will gravitate to the higher "perch".

Thats exactly what I did. I put a little freshwater fish net in the tank over the coral but I dont plan on keeping it there 24/7. My fish don't enjoy being trained either. My coral beauty always used to nip at the sea rod and I put a net in the tank so he would be scared, but after the net was out he nipped at it again. Same with the hawk. Once the net is out of the tank he's back on the coral. The hawk perches on the mag float as well as the coral.
