As some of you know I have been having an interestering problem with my frag tank. This tank has been set up for about 8 or nine years. For about the last year the frags have not been coloring up very well. Tha tank is a 20 long. Has about 20# of LR, plus a 2" sand bed. All of the water parameters are excellent; 1.024, PO4 0.02, Nitrates less than 5, 77 degrees, CA420, etc.
What I have done so far:
Changed from 165 watts of PC bulbs to 96 watts of T5's. No change.
Tried 175 MH 10k with 03 supplement, no real change.
Both of the lighting changes were tried for at least 3 months.
I started thinking( I know, this could be dangerous!) that there may be either some type of chemical warfare, but I didn't think so, or it may be suffering from "Old tank Syndrome".
So what I did was remove everything from the tank, dipped all of the frags in that Tropic marin dip, Removed all of the old sand bed, dipped all of the live rock in the dip, and changed about 50% of the water.
I did not find any 'bad' worms or other critters in anything.
So far everything is looking good.
Time will tell, as with everything in this hobby patience is the key.
My whole goal in this is to have nice encrusted frags that I can sell/trade to others, I just do not want to sell bad looking stuff.
