Its not the fluctuation that matters its how fast it gets there.....My tank changes from 77 at night to about 80ish during the day. Now if it went from 77 to 80 in a couple minutes that would be a problem.
I've seen my old 60 gallon reef reef jump from 79 in the morning before the lights come on, to almost 87 by the end of the day when the lights go off. This was in the middle of summer on a 10 hour lighting schedule. It was a mixed reef and none of the corals seemed to mind the fluctuation.
