Heater Failure Rate Data

I have not been able to come across any info on the failure rate of aquarium hobby heaters. I understand that they have been known to fail both in the on and off positions. A temp controller could be used to prevent a quick overheat of your tank by powering it in series with the heater so that it powers down the heater once a specified temp is reached.

Since we all hear horror stories of heaters manfunctioning I think it would be beneficial to have a survey type on this board that the members could fill in with info about their heater brand, size, and experience with it.

I would like to set up the survey and think it will be invaluable in helping people see the trend of failure rates that the manufacturers will not release to the public. I am 100% positive there is no six sigma methodolgy being implemented here ;-)

So before I start creating a layout for the survey, has anyone come across one that was already done before? If not, I will start setting it up.

never seen a survey like it before, but i think its a good idea...are you just doing the survey on this thread? If so...i've had 3 ebo jagger heaters for almost 5 years, never any problems whatsoever. But then i had 2 heaters go out on the same day, both brand new...i think they were hydor, but i cant remember..i'll find out later tonight.
