Heater Placement??

Do you place your heater in your sump or in the tank? Is there a advantage to placing it in your sump or tank?

I have 4 heaters in my sump for my 125g display.

The benefit is that your display looks a lot cleaner. I cannot think of any downside.

Mine is in my sump. It doesn't really matter where you place it though as long as the water is circulating.

Thanks, I was thinking the heat wouldn't be effective comming from the sump. I will make sure it's in a spot that has good flow. Do you need more heat since it is comming thru the sump?

Not really. Water by nature, unlike air, is resistant to both rapid heating and cooling, so water heated in your sump basically warms slowly enough and homogeneously enough so that when it's pumped back into your display tank it pretty much matches the water in your display tank because slightly cooler display tank water is being drawn back down into the sump. I've tested water temps both in sump where the heater is and in the display tank and there is negligible difference (on a 56 gal. tank)
