Heater Problem?!?!

Ok. So I have a Visi-Therm 200w heater in my tank. (Located in sump at first, but now in tank to monitor when it shuts off).
My tank temperature has hit 72 degrees with the heater running before, which is set at 79! So I figured I had a problem.

I watched for some time that, the heater itself will just completely turn off for an extended period of time, then it come back on.

Last night before I went to bed it was on, and at about 77 degrees.
I wake up this morning and it is 72!

I don't know what's wrong or is this normal with Visi-Therm?

Vista-Therm heaters are junk. I had the same problem with that heater even after exchangeing it 3 times. They all were bad some worse than others.

You should toss that thing out and get a Jager heater. Much better heater that has a good reputation. You can find them at www.marinedepot.com or www.liveaquaria.com.
