heaters

I was wondering everyones opinion on heating my tanks and sumps.

I am trying to heat 700 gallons of water and wondered if it would be better to use like 2 1000W titanium heaters or a bunch of smaller 500 or 800W heaters. I intend on using two or more ranco controllers. I have had a bunch of 500W finnex titaniums with built in controllers go bad after a month or so. How many titanium tubes and what wattage do you think I should use?

Thanks
Ron

Only 700 gallons of water:lol: I am going to use 6 500w heaters on Medusa controllers on my 1000g of water:D

That is when I put water in my tanks:rolleyes:

How many controllers are you going to use? So do you think it is better to use 6 500W or 3 1000W? I have been just using three 500W and it has held temperature at 79-80 degrees. The controllers just seem to go out quick so I thought perhaps they are being overloaded?

I would use multiple 500's for a few reasons. One is that if you get a controller like aquacontroller, reefkeeper, etc. they usually have a 5 amp limit on each outlet although neptune does have a single switched dual 15 amp outlet expansion, but it still would only let 1 1000w heater on it.

Most circuit's are only 15 amp so you would be running out of amperage as soon as you plug one in. Plus you can space them out on a larger number of circuits in case of tripping breakers.

Also, less likely that if one malfunctions it will boil the tank.
