heating issues LOL

Well, looks like I need to get a bigger heater for the tank now. After putting on leds, I lost my big 175 watt heater! I looked at the tank this morning and the temp was at 71. Gotta love it, I had a 100 watt heater in there, but looks like I will get a 200 watt or so to help keep the temps at 76 to 78. I did not think I would ever have a "too cold" issue (I don't think that 71 is too bad, just makes it kinda cold doing water changes etc....)

I think 71 is getting pretty low actually, I would definitely pick up a 200 watt heater. I think the minimum reef temperature is 68F. Did you lose anything in your tank?

I'm surprised it dropped that low now if it wasn't there before. My tank pretty much hits the bottom of my temp setting within a few hours of lights out. No matter what the room temp is, my heaters are still needed at night for at least a little while.

It is always a good idea to have two heaters, so if you need 200 watts to hold temp, but two of them and run them behind a controller. If you haven't been bitten yet, you will be at some point. I would never run a tank without at least two layers of protection from overheating and protection from a heater failure.

My understanding is that he had a 100-Watt heater and a 175-Watt heater, but the 175 stopped working.

yep, the 175 was the halides, I have a 100 watt and a 200 in there, tanks stays at 77 all day and all night now. It did not look like anything was affected at all.
