Heavily Modified Biocube Build

Great tank, and thanks for keeping it updated over time.

I'm still working on my now almost 6 month old 29g biocube, and am researching lights. I'm about to pull the trigger on the RapidLED solderless kit, and I think your experience and seeing your colors is finally going to get me to commit.

I've been trying to find anyone who had experience with the DIY retrofit kit and A. showed pics over time, and B. had acros that kept their nice colors. My acros are browning out under the 3x16w Panorama Pro 2.0s that came with my biocube, hence why I'm looking at the RapidLED.

So it's nice to see that your tank is still going well, and I'll be following the thread!

Thank you. I appreciate the follow

My SPS definitely keeps its colors. Growth isn't anything close to what I've gotten from T5s in the past. Hard to say if it's caused by the light or the multiple moves and periods of instability. Right now I'll bet on the latter and blame myself instead of blaming equipment.

I set up a coralife biocube 29, last year, for my gf to get her into the hobby a bit. I see your battling some bubble algae. I went thru that horrible stuff as well. Manual removal during water changes seemed to work but popping them while plucking off the rocks seemed to spread it. I added 2 emerald crabs, and although they too pop the bubble algae, i haven't seen any bubble algae in her tank for months.

Long time no see. I just wanted to say that the tank is still going strong despite my ups and downs in taking care of it. Hard to find time between working full time, going to grad school full time, and raising a family. I am lucky to have carefully built this as it self-maintains very well. Here is a quick FTS from today:

This is beyond beautiful! I hope someday to fully understand the plumbing aspect of a SW tank, I think I make it more complicated than it really is lol. Anyway you have an awesome tank. What advice would you give about having anemone with coral, it seems you didn't hesitate to put them in but I have been advised that they can hurt other corals and that they have a tendency to roam at first. I love the look of anemone but I also love the variety of coral. Any words of wisdom?

Thank you for the kind words. I love anemones so it's worth the risk to me. I put them in a spot I thought was best for them in the tank. The rock flower moved to that spot on night one and has never left. The RBTA went on a journey a few months ago and killed 2 nice pieces of sps. It happens

Have your clowns shown any interest in the anemone yet? I've had my semi picasso, and my RBTA for about 4 months now, and mine hasn't touched it at all lol. I know it's not the natural host, but I'm still hoping the pair will find it.

At some point in the past I had a different RBTA that one of the clowns went in. Later when I had a malu it went in that too. For some reason neither go near this one.

Very nice looking tank! My Biocube has been running for almost a year, but I'm not seeing much coral growth. What percentages are you running your rapid leds at? What salt mix are you using? Whats your water change schedule like? Thanks!

I did pretty much the same set up for the same reason. I did not go with the RAPID lights, but I am digging it! I just gutted the lights and added a Hydra. So far so good. I love the way you did the plumbing. Great work!
