Helfrichi Firefish

I would like to set up a nano and get a helfrichi firefish, or a pair if possible. Are pairs around 500 dollars? lol. Why are these fish so expensive anyway?

the one recomendation is

if possible make them the first fish into the tank. can be a bit skitish

and make sure there arent any holes in your canapy or overflows for them to get out.....

Ya, in the nano cubes theres no holes in the canopy anyway. It would be the only fish or pair in the tank. Do you have one? Was it easy to take care of?

These can go into a 12 gallon nano? Live aquaria shows 10 gallons and that link said 55 gallons, although Fosters has one in their 24 aquapod in the retail store. This would be a 12 gallon nano but if at all possible I would try to get the 24.

no I dont have one I have wanted one for a while and I also want one of these....

I had a pair of these and loved them and they had such good personality but they were murdered by ex friends.... want another pair sometime....

whats your reefkeeping experience? the larger a aquarium the easier it is to maintain stability so if posible go the 24 but if you have a auto top off and can keep it a constant temp I think you should be ok

Ok, thanks for the information. If anyone from LiveAquaria chimes in here, what do you think on the 12 gallon nano for 1 of these or a pair? The site listed above says 55 gallons and your site shows 10 gallons.
I think I would get the 24 gallon aquapod over the 12 gallon, as it isn't much of a price difference.

I have kept my 46 up for about 4 months, I have a clam, SPS, softies and all that so I'm doing pretty good since those are a little harder to keep. I think I would go with the 24 if I can just because of water volume.

Thank you for your post. From our experience we would suggest one Helfrichi Firefish in a 12 to 24 gallon aquarium and at least a 50 to 70 gallon aquarium for a mated pair. These are beautiful fish! We hope you find this information helpful.

So can anything else go in with them if decide to go with a 24? Like a clown perhaps or some kind of goby? Clown goby maybe.

T5Nitro,

Thank you for posting. You would be able to add one Clown Goby or one small Blenny (such as a Barnacle Blenny) with your Firefish in a 24-gallon aquarium without overcrowding. However, we feel that a Clownfish would grow too large to comfortably house with the Firefish in this size aquarium.

Ok, thanks for the help. All you need is live rock and sand correct? Everything else comes with the aquapod? Looking at the 24 gallon with flourescent lighting, can you hold things like zoas/mushrooms/palythoas in there with that lighting or do you need it upgraded?

T5Nitro,

Thank you for your reply. The Aquapod systems include a full three-stage filtration system with mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration media. The Compact Fluorescent system includes a hood with 2 32-watt Compact Fluorescent bulbs and two blue LED lights. For a reef tank with soft corals, you would need to add an appropriately sized heater and thermometer. The included lighting should be sufficient for low-light corals and other invertebrates. For corals that require higher lighting, we would recommend the HQI Metal Halide Aquapod Systems.

Do these helfrichi firefish ever go on sale? You have them for 250 but I am now finding them on sites for 125?

Oh cool! I will sign up for the e-mail newsletter, thanks!
I do check liveaquaria.com daily but usually check out the divers den section.
