Helfrichi with ICH!

I just bought a Helfrichi firefish two days ago and now I think he has ich He's in a 20gallon QT right now, with a HOB filter and 10lbs liverock.

Can I treat him with Cupramine and if so, what level and what are the risk? Can he handle this treatment or should i go with a different method, like freshwater dip or hyposalinity (which ive never done!)?

do the tank transfer method. only takes 2 weeks. all you need is 2 10gal rubbermaid containers with powerheads and heater.

Cupramine will be fine, .3 is the lowest effective dose rate.

I usually do 4 weeks of cupramine at 0.4ppm and dose 0.1ppm per day.

I'm a big fan of Cupramine; but I think tank-transfer is easy and dependable when you only have one fish to treat. FW dips do nothing for ich and I think hypo fails way to often. Was the firefish ever exposed to your DT water; or did it go straight to the QT?

Straight to QT, thank goodness!

I think I'll do the tank-transfer method, then prazipro.

good luck. most likely you wont have an ammonia issue with just 1 fish, but have some prime on hand. make sure you maintain good water flow.

i would think you should break down and sterilize your quarantine tank or make sure it remains fallow for at least 12 weeks.

make sure you clean and dry the containers between transfers(i used weak bleach mix) and make sure no equipment or water gets into the fresh transfer container from the old container.

Thanks! I'm on my second transfer and my helfrichi has no more signs of ich! And she's eating like a pig!

Good! But don't let the disappearance of ich shorten the treatment timetable. Ich can often disappear, then return.
