Hello every I am new to the saltwater game and I would just like to say thanks for all the info posted on this site. I think my head is going to explode from everything I read. I am just posting a few pictures so you can see what I am starting out with and make any suggestions. Since this is my first time venturing into saltwater any knowledge is helpful.
Well this is what I am starting with a 55 gallon donated to me by a friend. He said do you want a tank, I said sure! As you see it took a bit of work to get it out of there it was being used as a sump. While he was talking to me he suggested I buy his protein skimmer. I said sure. It is going to be overkill, but that’s a good thing from what I read. I believe it is ASM G series 3 skimmer. anyways this puppy runs good on his 90 gallon system!
well after helping move stuff around and doing a few things he said, how do you feel about base rock! I asked "Is that a band?" then he whipped out a 40 lbs box of base.
well after receiving all this awesome stuff, I ran into a dilemma. Ummm, I got no canopy. What the heck how could I forget about a canopy? After much debate on how I should construct this and what lights I wanted to use I came to this conclusion. 2 x96 watt 10k / actinic and 2 led moon lights blue. I was told this would be sufficient to grow most things. So I started on the canopy

well after a few hrs of hard work and many coats of paint. I ran down the road and found a great deal a 13 x 48 inch starboard piece $32. Here is what I got so far.
