Hello

Wow 6 views and no one Posted lol

Welcome and enjoy all the good info on here

Probably views by others outside of our local club so we cannot be held responsible for their lack of hospitality.... :spin2:

Welcome! I am also a Tiger fan (and obtained my undergraduate degree there) so an extra big welcome. Tell us a little about you....tank size, fish, corals. etc....

Welcome aboard! Glad you are here, we have had alot of new members recently which is great, as we are wanting to grow and expand our club! Hope you can make the meeting this Sunday.

I have been doing planted and freshwater tanks for about 20 years. Just now making switch to saltwater. Taking it slowly and learning alot. Got a 30 gal set up with live rock only for now. Have a 75 gal will be setting up soon.

Could we have your name? Most of us know each other's name and we flip back and forth from real names to these goofy RC names on these discussions....otherwise I will just nickname you "Tiger"

I moved back up here from Florida after 18 years and my last tank was a heavily planted Discus tank. I still have not seen any nicer Discus than the ones from Jack Watley (he personally collected his strain in Columbia, Brazil and Peru) in Miami....they were incredible. I had the undergravel heater, Co2 and the works.....I too had been in freshwater for over 20 years.

Anyway, after my tank sat empty for several months my wife asked why I had never tried a saltwater tank. Well, the first reason was I knew nothing about keeping a saltwater tank. Now I know the first reason should have been the cost factor....lol

If you have a money tree in your backyard and money is not a concern, then rock on.....but I would suggest you make sure you know what all you need for that 75 to do it right before going too fast. I would play around with the 30 and see how you progress. Some things you need to consider....do you have a RIO to make your tank water (if you are taking it from your sink it will catch up with you), a GOOD skimmer ($$), enough live rock (1 to 1.5 pounds per gallon), the right kind of lights ($$$) for the corals you want to keep, etc, etc. There are a lot of knowledgible reefers here that can provide you with the knowledge to make sound decisions and to improve the changes of a successful transition...not having the right or quality equipment can decrease your chances of long term success....

Okay, some wiseacres will say I am scaring you, but I am a realist and want you to succeed. You are right where I was about two years ago....and I am having a great time....

Kerry

P. S. - Stay away from a guy named Jabo, he is creepy! Word on the street is he is not coming to the meeting on Sunday, so attendance should be good.....

Hey, I'm new to the club too. I've been warned about that Rudolph guy. Apparently he'll show up at your house in the middle of the night, banging on your door demanding beginner corals.

.....oh freaky it is on like donkey kong...:strooper:

Tiger: You will find some of our fellow reefers are SPS coral snobs (friendly joking here) and seem to forget their beginning days................I think you will find that all types are fun, but I would recommend that you try a few softies to gain some confidence before moving on to more challenging corals (LPS and SPS). Don't let these :ape: intimidate you if that is the route you go....I will be glad to give you a few when you are ready to get you going if you would like...

I have a softy tank plumbled to my SPS display. Xenia sp. are some of my favorite corals. They still fascinate me. My colonies constantly need thinning, so you're welcome to some if you want. I also have some SPS that are tough to kill, when you're ready.

Rudolph, you can have some too... My probation officer will be here tomorrow around 3:00pm, but anytime after is good.

My probation officer aka my better half made me stop buying coral and tanks for a few weeks lol so I have money for the frag show.

I am glad to see more people on here in our little corner of the world
One thing for sure coral is addictive to some of us
I find myself just sitting in front of the tank and looking at everything
Even the appear little speck in the tank in amazement

Welcome Tigerfan!!! Sorry to tell you that it is near that time of year when every Tiger fan goes into hiding, FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!

Enjoy our group and the info available. We have a frag swap 10-1-11, bring plenty of cash and we will give you some awesome "deals"!!!

Watch out for that Rudolph guy. The hospital lets him post when they remove his protective head gear. Sometimes he gets wireless service on his phone while riding the short bus. One day we hope the fine people at the treatment center will consider him capable of learning the ways of SPS.
