Hello All,

New to the SW side of the hobby in Roanoke VA. Glad to see that there is a forum and a club, I google searched for clubs in VA and didn't realize this existed, so I'm happy to have found this forum. Let me know if there is a way to sign up for email alerts when you all are having meetings or swaps or whatever.

In January I bought a 90G SW tank off of CL that had been up and running for years. I switched it over to a newer 75G tank (I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment and don't take chances with floods). I have a 40g sump/refugium, 150+lbs of LR, and some decent lighting. Still need to get an ATO and a RO/DI and upgrade my skimmer, but I don't have much in the tank yet, and we are house hunting so hopefully soon we'll have a nice finished basement to dedicate to a fish room. I have 2 damsels and a clown fish and some small softy frags (zoas, anthelia, xenia, GSP, and a mushroom rock). I have a ton of FW aquariums (300 gallons running now and another 500 gallons of tanks in storage), so I'm excited to finally have taken the plunge into saltwater.

Looking forward to meeting up and getting to know some local reefers!

welcome to the area Will. This group is not what it used to be but still a few great tanks but kind of spread out. meeting are few and fare between but when someone steps up it is well worth the wait with trading and bulk buys.

Thanks ade,

I have lived in Roanoke almost all my life, I'm just new to the SW side of the hobby (my post was confusing), but thanks for the welcome and I'll look forward to what meetings we do have :)

Is there a way to join the group, or just monitor this forum for meeting time/places?

Just monitor the forum

welcome to the group will. it took me a couple of years to find the group after I started into reefs. I have learned so much since then and a good portion of it from others in the group. I have also saved a ton of money picking up used equipment, buying and trading corals with other members, and getting in on group buys.

Only a few members left and pretty spread out. I had a meet in late january and we had a good turnout and a pretty good time. I do not know if anyone is planning another meet but I may do another this summer after we get back off vacation.

if you are looking for equipment or corals, just post what you are looking for and if people have something available they will usually reply.

Thanks Jorge!

I already added this forum to my favorites and will monitor regularly. I made the mistake of getting my tank/LR on CL for a "steal" and now I have a lot of issues, but I'm trying to take it slow and let them resolve with time and weekly water changes and advice I'm getting here. I am definitely dedicated to the hobby, but I'm still really new to the SW aspect of it all. Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to getting together next time you all hold a meeting :)
