I there

I think I have a mantis in my tank. I heard a clicks in the night some times, my hermits are decrise and some times I have found them with out a shell.

Few months a go I saw something when it was going back to the LR I only saw the back of it. but I am sure it wasn´t any snail, fish, or crab. I think its a mantis. I have never see it again but I know its there.

After I read some articles about how to take it out. I have decide to take it out put in the rock on a dip of fresh water. all my corals are not atch to a rocks, but I have some musrooms tahn they are.

My question is will the corals live to a 1 minute FW dip.

Thanx a lot

Mushrooms should survive a freshwater dip. You may want to try a bottle trap first -- do a search on this forum.

Oh, and when you catch the beast, save it. Someone here will buy it from you. Just put it in a tupperware or critter-keeper (with holes, of course) in your tank or sump for safe keeping.

Mantis can be like a tired 3 year old who wants a cookie, VERY stubborn. 1 minute is probably not going to be enough to drive it out of the rock.

I think you would be better off doing a hyposalinity dip with the rock IMO. Mix upp some saltwater at 1.040 or so and he should come barreling out.

What a bout corals on this metoth? I have only shrooms atach to rocks.

The corals will be fine if its a quick dip. I wouldnt soak the rock or anything but a quick dip and they will be ok. If the mantis doesnt dart out after a couple seconds then pull it out. Usually they go nuts when they hit a really high salinity level due to osmotic shock.

One more question. what a bout the coraline algae will be afect?
and in the salinity metoth how long do Ihave to dip the rock in it?

I would like to give it a shoot this weekend.

If you do a quick dip it shouldnt affect anything on your rock. As soon as the rock is dunked in the water the mantis should dart out. If he doesnt dart out after a few seconds pull the rock out and try something else.
