Help building a tank setup?

I think this is where to post this as I'm new... I want to make a fish tank out of a five gallon glass bottle.

(much like this one > http://img0121.psstatic.com/180568838_vintage-large-5-gallon-crisa-glass-water-bottle-jar-jug-.jpg)

I want it to look awesome! Nothing that needs a whole ton of care because I still don't know much about taking care of fish but... I definitely want it to look nice. Also preferably quiet...

If you guys could help me out with what to put in it (like fish, plants, filters, lights, others...) that'd be great! Thanks. :fun2:

I would definitely advise against starting a tank in a 5 gallon glass carboy.

First off it will be very difficult to get filtration and water movement inside that bottle, you would pretty much be limited to an air stone.

Secondly, light will have great difficulty penetrating that bottle with a shape like that.

Another point which I think is your biggest problem.... Assuming you get everything set up nice... When you put fish into there, if one died you will never get it out, especially if it grew a little bit in the tank. That would cause the system to crash.

It can be done, but a reef tank probably isn't your best bet. Head on over to https://www.petshrimp.com/discussions/viewforum.php?f=2 and see what others have done. Freshwater Cherry Shrimp would be a good bet since they are easy to care for, colorful, and fun to watch. Do a search for "Vase Aquariums". Plop a peace lily into the spout and you could turn that carboy into something like this: http://www.eco-sphere.com/ and it would be a special aquarium setup indeed!

Yes, I changed my mind almost immediately after posting that on here... I think I'll build a decent sized tank instead. Thank you for the other ideas though!
