My filter stopped working.
What should i do? I'm in the process of upgrading to my 100 gal with sump but i'm not ready yet.
I have a emperor 400 running on it in addition to the fluval just to keep the water clean and run carbon.
Will the emperor 400 be adequate to maintain my tank it's 40 gallons?

Bio load
5 small fish
around 5 or 6 assorted corals
50 lbs of live rock
25 lbs of live sand.

As long as you have sufficient water flow and surface aggitation from things like powerheads, you can ditch all the canister filters and HOB filters. Just make sure to keep an eye on water parameters and do necessary water changes, and you should be fine.

Ditch them and get yourself a PhosBan reactor, some PhosBan, and some carbon. Run them both in the reactor. For a 100g tank, you might double what I use, which is 1/4 cup phosban and 3/4 - 1 cup carbon, changed out once a month. Or you might you could use what I use and just double the change rate (once every 2 weeks).

I highly recommend this setup for helping to control phosphates and maintain water quality at a slightly higher level.

Thanks,
I have a mjmod 1200,
That will take care of water flow and surface aggitation.

Thanks again and Happy New Year to all.
